The Art of Immersive Sound: Crafting the 11-Channel Microphone Array
In the world of recording, everything comes down to understanding the relationship between sound and space. Our latest project at Humber Studio explores an innovative 11-channel microphone array that pushes the boundaries of acoustic capture. Comprised of seven microphones on the bottom layer and four on the top, this cardioid Schoeps CMC 6u array was meticulously designed through extensive listening tests and precise mathematical positioning.
We didn’t just place microphones – we created a sonic landscape. By carefully considering height (120 cm), distance (89 cm), and speaker array angles, we developed a flexible recording tool that captures sound with hyper-realistic precision. Whether tracking instruments, ensembles, or layered overdubs, this array transforms how we experience spatial audio.
The magic isn’t in the equipment, but in understanding the intent, establishing aesthetic goals, and truly listening to the space. Our array isn’t just a technical achievement; it’s a testament to the art of sound engineering – creating an immersive experience that transports listeners directly into the heart of the music.
Stay tuned to hear the sonic magic we’ve captured in this remarkable studio.
