Immersive Keyboard & Organ Recording | Behind Immersed: Episode 26

Step into a transformed studio space where musical magic happens! Today’s session is all about capturing keyboard brilliance with Todd Pentney, featuring an incredible setup that’s every musician’s dream. We’ve meticulously crafted a keyboard wonderland, complete with a beautifully tuned Fender Rhodes, cutting-edge synthesizers like the ASM Hydra and Prophet Six, and a classic Hammond organ with a strategically positioned Leslie speaker.

The recording approach is nothing short of sonic artistry. Each instrument gets its own dedicated signal path, routed through advanced DI systems and effects chains. The Hammond organ capture is particularly fascinating – we’ve positioned microphones to create an immersive soundscape that captures not just the instrument, but the room’s acoustic character. Using carefully placed microphones including Neumann 4006s and Coles ribbons, we’re creating a three-dimensional sound experience that transports listeners inside the music.

This isn’t just recording; it’s sonic exploration, where every mic placement and signal routing tells a story of sound, space, and musical innovation.
