Behind the Immersive Sound: Woodwind & Brass Tracking at Humber College
In the pristine control room of Humber College, our recording session transforms horn tracking into an auditory art form. Leveraging a stunning 914 console, ATC and Genex speakers, we’ve created an immersive sonic landscape that breathes life into every brass and woodwind nuance.
Our mic selection is a carefully curated symphony: Coles and 67s on saxophones, a vintage RCA 77 DX and Flea 49 on trumpet, each chosen to capture the instrument’s true tonal character. Tube preamps from Fern and gentle compression maintain the musicians’ dynamic integrity.
The room itself becomes an instrument, with an M149 in Deca formation and M150s creating a five-channel array that captures glorious early reflections. DPA 4006 microphones in custom-built boxes provide height channel ambience, ensuring a natural, expansive soundstage.
This isn’t just recording—it’s sonic architecture, where every microphone placement and signal path is a deliberate brushstroke in an immersive audio painting.
