Immersive Piano Recording | Behind IMMERSED: Episode 10

Immersive Piano Capture: A Dive into Acoustic Recording Techniques

Join us behind the scenes of an extraordinary piano recording session featuring pianist Noam Lemish. In this sonic exploration, we’ve meticulously crafted an 11-channel microphone array using Schoeps MK4 capsules, carefully positioned to capture the pure essence of the instrument. Our approach blends innovative techniques from classical and contemporary recording, focusing on creating an authentic listening experience.

We experimented with multiple microphone configurations – from close Sennheiser MKH 40s to strategic room placements – ultimately designing an array that makes you feel like you’re sitting right next to the piano. By scaling our microphone placement based on acoustic intent rather than rigid rules, we’ve created a recording that lets the music breathe and the instrument speak.

The result? An immersive soundscape that disappears behind the music, allowing Noam’s performance to shine through with stunning clarity and emotional depth. It’s not just recording; it’s sonic storytelling.
