Capturing Sonic Brilliance: A Saxophone Recording Journey with Sundar Viswanathan

In our latest studio session, we dove deep into the nuanced world of saxophone recording with virtuoso Sundar Viswanathan. Using a carefully curated microphone setup—a vintage U 67 tube condenser and a classic RCA 77 DX ribbon mic—we captured the saxophonist’s incredible tonal range. The combination balanced the instrument’s dark undertones and bright, cutting lead qualities. Leveraging Odyssey headphones and strategic height mic placement with Neumann 4000 series omnis, we created an immersive recording environment that allows Sundar’s powerful performance to breathe. The goal: a natural, spacious sound that minimizes artificial post-production reverb and highlights the raw emotion of his playing. This recording isn’t just about technical precision—it’s about capturing the soul of a musician who can fill a room with sound, telling a story through every note. Join us behind the scenes of this extraordinary musical moment.
