Behind the Sonic Landscape: Capturing Drew Jureka’s Violin Mastery
In our latest immersive recording session, we dove deep into the art of violin capture with virtuoso Drew Jureka. This wasn’t just a recording—it was a meticulous sonic exploration that transformed microphone placement into a musical science.
Our mic arsenal was carefully curated: Neumann KM 54s and a Samar feel 37 provided a warm, close capture near the bridge, while ORTF-positioned Schoeps MK 201s delivered pristine upper register detail. The height and ambient dimensions were sculpted using DPA 4006s in a quad array and Coles 4038 ribbons, strategically positioned to capture the room’s natural resonance.
The result? A multi-dimensional soundscape that doesn’t just record a violin, but breathes life into every nuanced performance. Drew’s massive dynamic range and incredible engineering expertise transformed our studio into a living, breathing musical environment.
This isn’t just recording—it’s sonic storytelling at its finest.
